About the Event

Million MatsMillion Mats D.C. (MMDC) is an organization using food, yoga, and art (FYA) to empower social change in underserved communities. MMDC partners with yoga studios to collect lightly used yoga mats, which we donate to public and charter schools in Washington, D.C to support mindfulness programs.

Woosah WellnessIf a school has not established a mindfulness program, MMDC offers Woosah Wellness so students can access yoga, practice breath work, and understand the power of setting intentions. We network with local yoga instructors and assign them to public and charter schools to guide students through 60 minutes of yoga at least once per week. Woosah Wellness improves social emotional literacy skills, by helping learners move from margin to center with increased self awareness, social awareness, responsible decision making, self management, and relational skills.

FYAThis event is back by popular demand. At the turn of each season MMDC encourages you to ignite your FYA by engaging in a day of movement and mindfulness, FYA is an access point to community, compassion, and creativity to increase your confidence as you transition into a new season. FYA is free to attend. Throughout the day. MMDC collects yoga mats, signs up volunteers, and raises funds to mobilize the Woosah Wellness program. Donate a yoga mat or make a charitable contribution on-site to support Woosah Wellness and other wellness programs in D.C. public schools.
